Former Manchester City Footballer Benjamin Mendy Acquitted of Sexual Assault Charges

Ex-Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy, aged 28, has been found not guilty of accusations of engaging in sexual attacks on two women at his £4 million mansion.

The verdict was reached after a three-hour jury deliberation at Chester Crown Court this afternoon. Mendy, visibly emotional, expressed his delight in the courtroom following the announcement.

Mendy, who had been facing a retrial for one count of rape and one count of attempted rape during gatherings that violated lockdown restrictions, is now a free man. However, his contract with Manchester City expired in June, and he played his final match for the Premier League champions in August 2021.

During a previous court case in January, the French international full-back had also been cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Mendy, moved by the outcome, wept in response. His legal representatives have stated that he will now focus on rebuilding his life, and a potential return to top-flight football seems likely.
